SURFACE MODIFIED ZEOLITE

Surface Modified BRZ™ ("SMZ") is available in granular sizes generally 14 x 30, 8 x 40, etc. The charge of the SMZ has been changed to positive by using a quaternary amine ("quat"). The SMZ will thus exchange anions such as arsenates, etc. In water filtration tests to remove objectionable contaminations, quite often the water will be taken through a standard BRZ™ filtration bed and then through an SMZ bed. This procedure can also be in reverse, i.e. SMZ first and then standard BRZ™. The cost of SMZ is dependent on particle size, quantity and packaging.

Test batches are prepared as follows:

• Dry 1200 grams of 14 x 30 at 100 degrees C for 2 hours.

• Weigh out 907.2 grams of dried 14 x 30.

• Mix in 145.2 grams of quaternary amine

• Allow to dry for two days.
